Sophia Elena Gurulé (she/her/ella) is a member of Critical Resistance based in Brooklyn, New York with experience organizing at the intersection of prison industrial complex (PIC) abolition, migrant justice, and organized labor. A long-time member of the Dignity Not Detention coalition, Sophia has organized since 2019 to pass state and city legislation to end ICE detention and information sharing between local law enforcement and ICE. Sophia also organized within The Bronx Defenders Union - Association of Legal Advocates and Attorneys - UAW Local 2325 to materially improve working and living conditions for New Yorkers and workers worldwide. Previously, she worked for 8 years at The Bronx Defenders as an attorney and public defender representing detained and non-detained people subjected to U.S. deportation court proceedings. Sophia continues to organize and litigate in furtherance of justice and liberation for working class people worldwide.
