About me
Joe Todd is a researcher, organiser and political strategist. He writes on left parties for the Guardian, Novara Media and his Substack, and co-hosts the top 50 UK podcast Life of the Party. He is the author of "Between Autonomy and Control," a comparative study of the Belgian Workers' Party and the Democratic Socialists of America. He is currently working with the Whirlwind Institute on a study of Medicine for the People, a grassroots healthcare organisation associated with the Belgian Workers' Party. He was Head of Communications for Momentum during the 2017 and 2019 UK general elections, where he helped build a nationwide grassroots movement and organise tens of thousands of activists to knock on hundreds of thousands of doors. He previously worked at Social Practice, a collective founded by Bernie Sanders organisers, supporting unions, candidates and campaigns to organise at scale. He co-founded The World Transformed, a UK festival of socialist politics; Common Knowledge, a worker co-op that designs digital tools for grassroots activists; and the Movement Research Unit, a network of 650 researchers supporting 80 grassroots groups each year. He is a strategic advisor to Novara Media, a left-wing media outlet in the UK.
