About me
Chenjerai Kumanyika is an Assistant Professor at NYU Journalism and Program Director of the Urban Journalism Workshop. He specializes in narrative audio journalism at the intersection of race, history, and media critique. He is co-creator and co-host of Uncivil (Gimlet Media) and a collaborator on Scene on Radio, and creator and host of Empire City: The Untold Origin Story of the NYPD, winner of Ambie, Signal, and Webby awards. His work has earned a George Foster Peabody Award and the Union of Democratic Communications' Dallas Smythe Award. He serves on the boards of Hammer & Hope, Street Poets, and The Moth, and organizes with the National Council of the AAUP.
