Rev. Belkis Teran is the mother of Manuel "Tortuguita" Teran, a queer, non-binary, Venezuelan forest defender who was killed by Georgia State Patrol in January 2023. She is an ordained minister and the founder of the Tortuguita Healing Center, an integral, environmentalist project focused on creating a forest and a "home" where climate activists and forest defenders from all over the world can come to rest, heal, and train—all for free.
