High school English teacher based in Kingsland, GA. Currently teaching virtually in Missouri. Born in Florida, grew up in New Hampshire, then came back to Florida as a teen. UMiami alum '18 ('Go Canes!). Taught for five years brick-and-mortar in Daytona Beach, FL, before switching to virtual teaching for family reasons. It's been a nice change work-life balance wise, but I miss being in the room with students. I have been left-leaning my entire life, but I was radicalized around 2019 and have been slowly becoming more well-versed and involved. Have extensive union experience as a previous steward for my former school district, took on multiple leadership roles and did an intensive research project, paper, and presentation on the lack of racial and socioeconomic equity in advanced courses in the U.S. K-12 education system at-large in the U.S., in Florida, and in my former county. I have extensive previous experience in writing, copy editing, and turning written product around quickly through my previous experience as a copy chief, section editor, and columnist for my university's newspaper - I'd love the opportunity to use that background again, particularly in an activism context. I'm a proud Floridian (somehow) and maintain hope that the political environment can be changed for the positive through hard work and (a lot) of patience. I'm passionate about education, literacy, fighting anti-intellectualism, education reform, and progressive/left politics in general. Proud DSA member and former member of NEA, AFT, and my county's teacher union. My hobbies include piano, guitar, singing, learning music production (still a total newbie but I'm working on my first music project), and writing. I love birds, the beach, and coffee. Hoping to connect with fellow progressives - the south can be lonely politically! :)
